The Gendered Impact of Macroeconomic Policy in Malawi

The case for social and economic inclusion of women to actively participate in economic activities among African countries is clear. To achieve gender empowerment and gender mainstreaming, there is need for strong advocacy on gender empowerment at all levels and increased economic opportunities for girls and young women.

FEAM, with support from the African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) and Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) commissioned Naxiluva Consulting to undertake a study aimed identifying the gendered impacts of macroeconomic policy in Malawi. The purpose of the study is aimed at deepening knowledge, capacity and skills of young women and their allies to engage and influence macro-economic policies and frameworks including debt management from a feminist perspective to achieve economic justice for women.
